Local SEO Checklist for Home Service Businesses

A working checklist covering technical health, service pages, local content and measurement — in the order we would actually do them.

1. Technical foundation

Nothing else works reliably until these are true.

  • Every important page is indexed
  • Mobile pages load quickly on a real phone and cellular connection
  • Images are compressed, correctly sized and lazy-loaded
  • One H1 per page and a sensible heading hierarchy
  • No broken links, redirect chains or duplicate content
  • A valid sitemap and a robots.txt that does not block anything important

2. Service pages

One page per service you want to be called about.

  • Written in the language homeowners use, not trade jargon
  • Genuinely detailed on scope and process
  • A clear, visible contact path
  • Internally linked to related services

3. Local content

  • Service area content built only for areas you genuinely cover
  • Each location page substantially different from the others
  • Consistent business naming across the site

4. Supporting content and measurement

Add one or two useful posts a week that answer real questions and link into your service pages. Then track impressions, clicks, indexed pages and enquiries monthly — and judge the work on the trend, not on a single position check.
